Ok, these are my feelings and like I always say, no one can tell you that the way you feel is wrong. Its how your mind and body picks up on stuff. Anyways, I have definitely noticed a divide in the natural hair community and I’m pretty sure y’all have also. Its sucks but like everything in life there is a black and white….and gray. I feel like I’m (and others w/ hair like me) are the gray. There’s the looser curled 3a/b and sometimes C chicks that everyone secretly wants to be (smh) and then there’s the tighter coiled sistas in the 4b/4c category that everyone roots for and focuses their uplifting words, blogs, and vlogs on because it’s taboo to have hair like that (true). So I see the focus on either the 3’s or the deeper 4’s. Now. My texture falls in the range of 4a/3c. I’m really in between. I like my hair, love it. But it seems like there are no blogs etc featuring us. Now, don’t get me wrong I’m not asking for exclusivity just want to be included!
This all started because I was on facebook earlier looking at some of my groups and there was a wonderful tumblr page posted w/ beautiful natural sistas showcasing their hair and styles. The blog stated that it was for those with tightly coiled hair. I consider my hair tightly coiled so I submitted a photo. I went back to the site to see if my pic was posted. Negative. Still not assuming, maybe the moderator hasn’t gotten to it yet. Upon further inspection of the page (not sure if it was posted or not after I first viewed the blog so not going to assume) Underneath the title it stated that this particular blog is for women who have 4b/4c hair. Sooo I’m not included. Yes, this pisses me off and makes me feel secluded in a natural hair purgatory. If there are sistas out there who feel like me let me know or just let me know in general what you feel is going on. Am I over analyzing? hmmmmm…
